Why holiday in Chobe National Park & Savuti?

Chobe National Park lies in the north of Botswana and winding its way along the park’s northern boundary is the Chobe River, a lifeline for the park’s wildlife, in particular the huge numbers of elephants. During the dry season from May to October large herds, often numbering in the hundreds, make their way to the river to drink and bathe.

Boat cruises offer the chance to observe the elephants, hippos and crocodiles from the river, as well as big cats, antelopes and buffalo. Cruising along the river as the sun sets is a beautiful experience. Game drives on open safari vehicles head deeper into the park, encountering wildlife among the woodlands and savannas.

Away from the river, the Savuti area of the park is particularly known for its lion population and their unique hunting behaviours. To the far west is the mysterious Savute Channel, an unpredictable water channel that floods then dries up and can remain without water for decades. The wildlife sightings in this area are incredible.

Chobe is a very accessible park with most visitors arriving into the town of Kasane, just outside the park, where there is a choice of riverside hotels and lodges. There are lodges within the park too, bringing you closer to the wildlife. The borders with Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia are close by – ask our team about combining these countries or adding on a visit to Victoria Falls.

"The holiday was absolutely fantastic. Saw all the big 5 except rhinos. The accommodation was top class (lovely big beds), the people who staffed it were so friendly, guides were so knowledgeable, you really felt they wanted you to visit their country. We did a helicopter tour over Victoria falls, which were awe inspiring - another highlight of the holiday. All the transfers were smooth and efficient and this reduced any stress in the holiday, loved the small plane hops between camps in Botswana. We had an unforgettable holiday and will be boring our friends and family with it for months. Thanks for your help in organising this wonderful holiday. "

We had a fabulous trip staying at 3 lodges in Botswana. My late husband and I were keen bird watchers and I donated his binoculars to one of the lodges there, for which they were very appreciative. Thank you for everything you did.

"Back home after another fabulous holiday. The lodges were all of the same high standard of cleanliness, food quality and presentation with all members of staff helpful, friendly and as immaculately turned out as we remember from 4 years ago. The guides were all brilliant with their knowledge, enthusiasm and great sense of humour. We did a 4 hour game walk-brilliant! Again a great holiday - may well return in a few years!!"

When to travel to Chobe National Park & Savuti

Chobe National Park offers excellent wildlife viewing year round. The Chobe riverfront attracts huge elephant herds between June and September, whilst the migrating zebra and wildebeest herds move through the National Park & Savuti regions around November, December and then again from March to May. The Savuti region offers excellent game viewing opportunities at any time to combine with other regions in Botswana.
