Chobe National Park & Savuti
Why holiday in Chobe National Park & Savuti?
Chobe National Park lies in the north of Botswana and winding its way along the park’s northern boundary is the Chobe River, a lifeline for the park’s wildlife, in particular the huge numbers of elephants. During the dry season from May to October large herds, often numbering in the hundreds, make their way to the river to drink and bathe.
Boat cruises offer the chance to observe the elephants, hippos and crocodiles from the river, as well as big cats, antelopes and buffalo. Cruising along the river as the sun sets is a beautiful experience. Game drives on open safari vehicles head deeper into the park, encountering wildlife among the woodlands and savannas.
Away from the river, the Savuti area of the park is particularly known for its lion population and their unique hunting behaviours. To the far west is the mysterious Savute Channel, an unpredictable water channel that floods then dries up and can remain without water for decades. The wildlife sightings in this area are incredible.
Chobe is a very accessible park with most visitors arriving into the town of Kasane, just outside the park, where there is a choice of riverside hotels and lodges. There are lodges within the park too, bringing you closer to the wildlife. The borders with Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia are close by – ask our team about combining these countries or adding on a visit to Victoria Falls.
