Kenya
Why holiday in Kenya?
A long-time favourite, Kenya’s outstanding reserves are matched by the warmth and friendly smiles of its people.
The vast plains of the Masai Mara, visited each year by the huge herds of the Great Migration, combine beautifully with the spectacular regions of Laikipia and Samburu and not forgetting the shimmering lakes of the Great Rift Valley. Elephants striding majestically across the plains against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro is an iconic image of Amboseli.
The sandy beaches of the Kenyan Coast make this a truly spellbinding country, one to explore time and time again.
Discover Kenya
Explore Kenya
Kenya is as captivating as it is diverse. There is something for first-time visitors or those looking to explore this incredible country in more depth. With over 30 national parks and reserves, Kenya offers a unique holiday for those looking for safari, cultural experiences or beach escapes.
The Masai Mara is a ‘must see’ on many wish lists, and rightly so. Not only is it home to one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth, the Great Migration, but it has exceptional wildlife all year round. The sheer variety of species that inhabit the Mara’s plains never ceases to amaze us each time we visit. And while the Mara Reserve itself is extremely popular, we know of many gorgeous camps and lodges in the surrounding private conservancies where a more exclusive experience is assured.
The semi-arid plains of Samburu offer a combination of unique wildlife, rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes and many conservation success stories. Which is why spending a few days here could well be the highlight of your holiday.
Set against a backdrop of plains, forests and mountains, the wildlife conservancies of Laikipia focus on delivering a safari experience with conservation and sustainable tourism at its core. The vast Laikipia Plateau stretches from the slopes of Mount Kenya towards the shore of Lake Baringo.
Lining the Great Rift Valley is a collection of sparkling lakes where you’ll find an incredible array of birdlife. The alkaline waters of Lake Nakuru and Lake Elementeita attract a wide variety of birds, including flocks of flamingos, while hippos prefer the fresh waters of Lake Naivasha.
Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak can be seen from Kenya’s southern parks. Amboseli is known for its large herds of elephants while in Tsavo East the red volcanic soil has given the elephants a distinct reddish hue.
Kenya is blessed with a beautiful coastline, dotted with popular coastal resorts, hideaway islands and a Marine National Park – speak to us about the best time to spot the migrating humpback whales or if kite surfing is your passion, we can recommend the best beaches.
Experience Kenya
Kenya offers a wealth of experiences in iconic locations, known to millions worldwide. We’ll use our first-hand knowledge, gained over many years, to create your ideal Kenyan holiday.
Safari. Kenya’s safari experiences are many and varied. Whether you want to see the huge herds of wildebeest and zebra on their Great Migration, the giant tusker elephants in Amboseli or the unique ‘Special 5’ in Samburu, we will use our personal experience to plan the best holiday for you. For the ultimate all-round experience we recommend a combination of parks.
Stunning scenery. Kenya has an abundance of breathtaking landscapes. The Mara’s plains and escarpment still deliver those iconic scenes from ‘Out of Africa’ while in Samburu the awe-inspiring views stretch for miles. There are lakes and forests, mountains and plateaus, while the coast has miles of palm-lined beaches. Our carefully crafted holidays will take you to the country’s most scenic spots.
Discover colourful cultures. Kenya’s Maasai and Samburu tribes lead a pastoral way of life, their traditional garments and intricate beadwork a vibrant splash of colour in the bush. Many lodges will take you to meet their community if you wish.
Action & Adventure. Walk in the pristine wilderness with Samburu Warriors and a train of camels, take a horseback safari, hike up Mount Kenya or soar across the Masai Mara in a hot air balloon. The coastal waters are ideal for water sports, deep sea fishing and sunset cruises while a night under the stars in a remote fly-camp is an unforgettable adventure.
Unique wildlife experiences. The Great Migration is a ‘bucket list’ item, but in Kenya you can combine the wildebeest migration with the whale migration in the one trip. We think that’s something special! As is the Samburu Special 5 (Besia oryx, Grevy’s zebra, Reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich and the long-necked gerenuk), found only in Kenya’s more northern reserves.
Travel Kenya Your Way
The options to travel to and around Kenya are many and varied. We’re here at African Pride to help plan and advise how to do this in a way that meets your wishes as effortlessly as possible.
Small Group Tours
Travelling in a small group with a driver/guide sharing their knowledge and passion for their country as you go, provides a real insight into Kenya’s highlights and the country itself. This is Africa, the days will be long, and the roads can be bumpy, but we know the best tours that will ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
Private Guided Trip
If you prefer to travel independently, then a private guided trip is the perfect way to go. Your own driver/guide will collect you and drive you along your pre-planned route, sharing snippets of knowledge to enhance the journey as you go. Ideal for a couple but for a family or group of friends it’s a memorable experience.
Flying in Kenya
Kenya is well serviced by many of the world’s leading carriers. For onward connections we have access to competitive fares to link with other popular destinations. Access to the safari areas can be done by taking one of the scheduled light aircraft transfers that fly a daily circuit around the reserves. The African Pride team can advise on the best routes and fares to ensure an effortless journey.
Rail
Travelling by train through the ever-changing African countryside is a great way to see the country and a popular alternative to travelling by road. The Iron Snake is the most popular tourist train linking Nairobi and Mombasa with the option to include the reserves in the southeast of the country. Speak to one of the African Pride team for details.
Cruise
The bustling port of Mombasa is at times included as a start or end point with some cruise companies for their voyages around the African continent. Voyages are planned well in advance and working with the cruise companies we can incorporate a cruise into a pre or post Africa itinerary to help plan the trip of a lifetime.
Multi-country combinations
If the holiday of lifetime would be to combine the mighty Victoria Falls, with views of Kilimanjaro across the plains of Amboseli, gorilla trekking in Rwanda, or seeing the Great Migration crossing the Serengeti before ending on an idyllic beach in the Seychelles, then no problem, the African Pride team relish and excel at making such dreams come true.
Accommodation
The choice is yours! Choose from a five-star city hotel or city retreat, a family run beach escape or a private beach villa. On safari, options range from beautiful lodges to authentic simple tented camps, or a bed under the stars. Discuss with us the accommodation styles preferred and we can suggest properties to suit from the wide selection of hotels, camps and lodges we know, first hand.
