Amboseli & Tsavo
Why Safari in Amboseli or Tsavo?
To the south east of Nairobi are two of the country’s most unique wildlife sanctuaries – the National Parks of Amboseli and Tsavo. Easily reached by road or train from Nairobi (or a short flight), these parks offer landscapes and views that simply aren’t found elsewhere in Kenya. The beaches and resorts of the Kenyan coast are also a short drive away, perfect for a safari and beach combination.
Amboseli National Park is known for its large herds of elephants and its stunning views of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, standing just across the border in neighbouring Tanzania. An awe-inspiring and unforgettable sight.
Tsavo National Park, divided into East and West, is Kenya’s largest park, with mountains, springs, volcanic landscapes and distinctive red earth.

Guided Journeys
The Amboseli and Tsavo areas are included on several touring itineraries that take in Kenya’s highlights, combining this area with other reserves before ending their journey at the coast. Travelling with a private guide means that the itinerary can be tailored exactly to your requirements.
Flying
The option to fly around Kenya always provides a more convenient way to travel and see Kenya from a different perspective whilst flying over the beautiful landscape. Several companies operate daily light aircraft transfers to the area, which connect well with flights to Kenya’s other reserves. Speak to the team at African Pride for details of the services available.
Rail
The Madaraka Express, or ‘Iron Snake’ as it is affectionately known, is the train that travels between Nairobi and Mombasa and having relatively recently been upgraded, it is proving an increasingly popular way to travel between the capital and the coast. There is the option to leave the train at the Amboseli or Tsavo parks, a unique way to combine a safari and beach style holiday.
When to travel to Kenya for a safari
The dry season months of January to March and July to October are generally the best times to visit Kenya for a safari. The days are cooler but still warm and it is generally dry. The Great Migration typically arrives in the Masai Mara between July and September.
