Kenya's Coastal Resorts
Why holiday in Kenya's Coastal Resorts?
With white sands, turquoise waters, World Heritage Sites and rich Swahili culture, Kenya’s Indian Ocean coastline is a paradise for land and sea lovers alike.
Stretching from Diani in the south all the way up to the Lamu archipelago, you’ll find resorts to suit all tastes and requirements, from toes-in-the-sand hideaways and island retreats to luxury villas and family-friendly resorts with plenty of entertainment.
There’s a plethora of water sports to choose from too, including wind or kite surfing and deep-sea fishing in the Marine Protected waters, as well as reefs for snorkelling and sunset cruises on traditional wooden dhows. On dry land, there are resorts with tennis courts, spas and gyms, as well as an 18-hole championship golf course with dramatic ocean views at Vipingo Ridge.
Diani Beach, south of Mombasa, is a lively resort with restaurants, shops, beach bars and a beach that stretches for 17 kilometres. Naturally there are plenty of water sports, including dolphin-spotting boat trips to enjoy. Away from the sea, visit the Kaya Kinondo sacred forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Colobus Conservation, a centre dedicated to supporting endangered Angolan colobus monkeys.
Situated between pristine beaches and lush forest, Watamu boasts a stunning, untouched beauty. The Watamu Marine National Park is renowned for its vibrant coral reefs, sea turtles, and exceptional opportunities for deep-sea fishing. You may spot playful dolphins on a boat trip or catch a glimpse of migrating humpback whales from June to September. The beach also serves as a vital nesting ground for green and hawksbill turtles. Further inland, explore the Arabuko Sokoke coastal forest on a guided nature walk or discover the ancient Gede ruins, which date back to the 12th century.
The beautiful and unspoiled beaches of the Lamu Archipelago invite relaxation. Glide through the serene mangrove creeks by kayak or paddleboard, or sail around the islands aboard a motorboat or traditional dhow. At the heart of the archipelago lies Lamu Old Town, one of East Africa's oldest Swahili settlements and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its narrow, winding streets a delight to explore.
A safari and beach getaway is an irresistible combination, and our team excels at crafting holidays that offer the best of both worlds.

Where to stay on the Kenyan Coast
Travel the Kenyan Coastal Resorts Your Way
Guided Journeys
A few of the guided tours we feature will start in Nairobi, travel via the lakes, the Mara and Amboseli before travelling down to the coast which makes for a convenient way to experience some of Kenya’s best safari experiences and your relaxing beach stay. Others travel to and from Mombasa to the Amboseli or Tsavo parks for a great safari and beach combination.
Flying
Several airports are dotted along the Kenyan coast which connect the main beach resorts to Nairobi, with easy connections to travel onwards from there. The operators offering the light aircraft flight transfer services also have fights between the Mara and the south coast resorts, which does allow for convenient safari and beach connections.
On the Water
It will be no surprise that an impressive range of water-based activities are to be found all along the Kenyan coast, making the most of the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and the Marine Reserves found there. In addition, seasonally, there are some great options for whale watching and game fishing.
Rail
The Madaraka Express, or ‘Iron Snake’ as it is affectionately known, is the train that travels between Nairobi and Mombasa and having relatively recently been upgraded, it is proving an increasingly popular way to travel between the capital and the coast. There is the option to leave the train at the Amboseli or Tsavo reserves, a unique way to combine a safari and beach style holiday.
When to travel to the Kenyan Coast
Visit the Kenyan Coast between October and March for clearer water and hotter temperatures. If you want to spot the migrating humpback whales, August is usually the best month.

Kenya Coast
From south of Mombasa to north of Malindi, the warm waters of the Indian Ocean lap the 300 mile coastline of glorious palm fringed white sandy beaches.
Most are protected by coral reefs which lie about half a mile offshore. This allows for excellent water sports including diving and deep sea fishing.
