Laikipia
Why Safari in Laikipia?
Laikipia is a remarkable safari destination and a shining example of sustainable tourism with conservation and community at its core. Large, privately managed conservancies provide a wide-open environment where wildlife can roam freely. Alongside the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo), Laikipia also has strong populations of reticulated giraffe, African wild dogs and the highest concentration of black rhinos in Kenya.
Beyond traditional safaris, Laikipia has a host of outdoor activities and adventures, such as horse-riding, hiking, exploring on mountain bikes or sleeping out under the stars. For a truly unique experience, ask our team about our camel-assisted safaris, where you can experience the thrill of walking between camps through these game-rich landscapes, accompanied by expert guides and a train of camels.
Laikipia’s eco-friendly lodges and camps are set in picturesque locations with incredible views, often as far as Mount Kenya. Many offer opportunities to meet with the local village communities or to participate in conservation projects. And because these lodge are on private land, game drives can extend into the evening when nocturnal animals emerge.
With its unique mix of scenery, abundant wildlife and range of activities, Laikipia offers something for every member of the family to enjoy.

Guided Journeys
The Laikipia area is featured as a stopping point for a comprehensive small group tour around Kenya and its main areas of interest. For a more private experience, a similar route can also be done with a private guide tailoring the route exactly to your requirements. There is also the chance to partake in a 4-7 day guided walking safari that is supported by a camel train, a real taste of an era gone by.

The option to fly around Kenya always provides a more convenient way to travel and see Kenya from a different perspective whilst flying over the beautiful landscape. Several companies operate a daily ‘circuit’ of light aircraft transfers between the reserves, making it easy to incorporate the different areas into one itinerary. Speak to the team at African Pride for details of the services available.
Lodge Activities
Each lodge in Laikipia will offer daily game viewing activities however the area allows you to experience Kenya and its natural beauty in a more adventurous way.
