Overview

Governors’ Mugie is located in a 50,000-acre private wildlife conservancy in Laikipia, where local communities and wildlife share the same eco-systems. From its hillside location, the house looks out over sweeping plains dotted with Acacia trees. As well as being home to endangered species such as Grevy’s zebra, Jackson’s hartebeest, the Besia oryx and Reticulated giraffe, Mugie has a host of activities, from lion tracking to canoeing – even a round of golf!

Rooms

The eight stone cottages are all en-suite, with a luxurious bathtub and open fire, lounge area and a balcony or veranda – perfect for taking in the views of the garden or the Laikipia plains.

The Suite has a private plunge pool on the veranda while the Family Cottage has two bedrooms connected by a spacious lounge, a veranda and a private plunge pool. All are exquisitely furnished and decorated in light and natural colours.

Facilities

Meals are served in the elegant dining room at the large main house and are prepared from ingredients sourced from the vegetable garden. Relax by the open log fire or on the terrace – a waterhole set in front of the main house attracts a variety of wildlife.

There is an infinity pool with an al fresco dining area and a small spa offering a range of pampering treatments. In between game drives, there’s time for a round of golf on the nine-hole course, canoeing on Mugie Dam or exploring the conservancy on an eco-friendly, guided e-bike adventure.

As the focus is very much on wildlife and conservation, guests have the opportunity to track lions or to meet with the anti-poaching unit, headed up by two bloodhounds (and their handlers).

Trips can be arranged to meet with the colourful Pokot and Samburu communities and to visit the cattle ranch and farm.
