Sarara Camp

SAMBURU

Overview

Set on the slopes of the Mathews Mountain Range, home to the colourful Samburu people, Sarara Camp has an idyllic location. The intimate eco-camp is off grid, powered by the sun and surrounded by 850,000 acres of pristine and remote wilderness - the views are awe-inspiring from every angle.

Rooms

The camp’s six tented rooms feature light, contemporary décor and are all positioned to make the most of the views, with beds that face the front and sofas on the outdoor decks. The canvas walls, hand-crafted wooden furniture and solar-heated outdoor showers have all been designed to evoke the nostalgia of camping without sacrificing any comforts.

Sarara House is a self-contained, two-bedroom house with its own private dining area, lounge and plunge pool, ideal for families or friends travelling together.

Facilities

The thatched main lodge overlooks a waterhole frequented by local wildlife and has covered dining and lounging areas, an outdoor wooden deck and an infinity pool with incredible views.

Activities include game drives, walks and trail runs with local Samburu guides, horse-riding and cultural interactions with the Samburu community where you can chat about beading with the Samburu ladies, see the blacksmith at work or visit a school. Visits to the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary and Samburu’s traditional ‘Singing Wells’ can also be arranged.

Our thoughts

" The camp is part of the Namunyak Wildlife Conversation Trust, and through its conservation work, the Namunyak Conservancy is a safe haven for wildlife, including Kenya’s second largest population of elephants and large numbers of Reticulated giraffe. "

"A fabulous family holiday!!! We really felt we were in the middle of the Great Migration, right on the Wildebeest trail. It was extraordinary just to see the numbers of them. The balloon ride was stunning. Our Internal flight back was delayed a bit due to thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra crossing the runway for at least half an hour. We couldn’t have wished for a better send off!!"

"The Sheldrick Orphanage was a great way to spend time in Nairobi - it was lovely to see the young elephants. We obviously adopted one! The tents and food on safari were great! Lots of space and all the amenities we needed. The food throughout was excellent, there were lots of Vegetarian and Vegan options. The whole trip was amazing and we've certainly got some wonderful memories and millions of photos! Everyone we met was so lovely and nothing was too much trouble. "

"We were staggered by the professionalism throughout, the care & attention to ensure that we made the best use of our time was heart warming. We did a sundowner helicopter flight resulting in a G+T on a small ridge at 6500 feet watching the sunset… The food at both camps was good enough to serve in any high end restaurant around the world. A Birthday cake arrived on our last night, carried in by all the Masai staff, some dressed in their robes & singing. The trip was a huge success on so many levels. We wouldn’t have changed a thing. Thank you for all the fantastic organising. "
