Why holiday in Namibia?
Each time we visit Namibia we are in awe of its spectacular beauty, from the towering sand dunes of Sossusvlei to the depths of Fish River Canyon and the hauntingly beautiful Skeleton Coast. Damaraland has uniquely adapted desert wildlife, whilst the shimmering salt pans of Etosha offer the best game viewing and the verdant wetlands of the Zambezi Region deliver a different style of safari. Learn about the nomadic Himba tribes with their decorative ochre colouring whilst the Herero ladies’ headdresses are a wonderful sight to see. Namibia will certainly captivate you in its own unique way.

Explore Namibia
Namibia’s stark beauty leaves a lasting impression on all who visit. The scenery is diverse, beautiful and at times otherworldly: mountains, canyons, deserts and wetlands, it is a land of captivating contrasts.
In the Namib Desert, parched pans of salt and clay are surrounded by some of the highest sand dunes in the world. Here, there’s a sense of splendid isolation and at night the stars in the unpolluted skies are spectacular.
Damaraland’s beauty is raw and untamed. The rugged terrain is punctuated by rocky outcrops, with towering mountains on the horizon and deep canyons carving their way through the land. In our opinion, the views here are quite simply amazing.
For wildlife viewing we recommend a few days in Etosha National Park, home to a huge array of game set against the backdrop of a shimmering salt pan. In the private reserves around the park you’ll find exquisite lodges and glamorous tented camps.
Coastal towns such as Swakopmund and Walvis Bay offer respite from the desert’s heat and a tantalizing choice of adventure activities on land and sea. Further up, and often shrouded in coastal mists, is the evocative Skeleton Coast, land of shipwrecks and seals.
The capital city, Windhoek is an interesting blend of modern and traditional. Just outside the city, there are some sumptuous private reserves which we feel are perfect spots to start or end your Namibian safari.
In the far northwest, you’ll find true wilderness amongst the mountains, valleys, rivers and waterfalls of Kaokoland and heading east towards Botswana, the wetlands of the Zambezi Region are a lush, green oasis.
Experience Namibia
Natural Wonders. When it comes to wonders of nature, Namibia excels. Iconic sights include the spectacular Sossusvlei dunes which rank amongst the tallest in the world; Etosha’s salt pan, so vast it can be seen from space and Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world,
Stunning scenery. Namibia’s scenery is spectacular. Take a road trip through the almost lunar landscapes of Damaraland or explore the lush greens of the Zambezi Region. When seen from the air, the desert dunes stretch like a rolling sea of sand as far as the eye can see and the Skeleton Coast’s eerie beauty is revealed.
Safari Experiences. Etosha National Park is the country’s premier wildlife viewing destination, but the safari experiences don’t end there. Track rhino on foot or encounter desert-adapted elephants in Damaraland and see first-hand the AfriCat Foundation’s conservation work at Okonjima Reserve. Take a game drive or river safari across the floodplains of the Zambezi Region, spot large colonies of seals along the coast or the beautiful oryx against a backdrop of a red desert dune.
Action & Adventure. From sand boarding and desert horse rides to dolphin cruises and kayaking with seals, Namibia’s activities make the most of the unique combination of desert and sea. Uncover the hidden wonders of the Living Desert or soar above the dunes on a hot air balloon.
Cultural Encounters. Namibia is home to many ancient and semi-nomadic tribes, including the Himba with their distinctive ochre colouring and intricate hairstyles and the Herero
people known for their unique and colourful clothing. At Twyfelfontein, ancient rock engravings provide insights into the spiritual and cultural beliefs of the hunter-gather San people.
Travel Namibia Your Way
Namibia’s wide open spaces never fail to leave travellers in awe of the spectacular scenery of this very different corner of southern Africa. The main sights are spread across the country and ensuring an itinerary covers all you want to include needs careful planning. Speak to our team to discuss the wide variety of options available.
Guided Tours
A trip around Namibia with a guide will take away the long drives leaving you to enjoy the stunning scenery along the way. We have access to a number of small group tours at differing levels to suit all travellers. Alternatively, a private guided tour can be arranged for a truly bespoke experience. For the more adventurous we can arrange camping tours or guided walking tours.
Flying
Namibia’s main access point is Windhoek which is well serviced by a number of carriers with links to many regional and domestic destinations. A popular way to travel around Namibia is by light aircraft, reducing the travel time between key sights. Flying over this vast, open country also brings another awe-inspiring perspective.
Self Drive
There is a great road network around Namibia making a self-drive trip an attractive option for those wishing to travel more independently. The drives can be long and the roads are mostly gravel so itineraries require careful planning and first-hand experience to steer you towards the most suitable routes and vehicles. The team at African Pride are on hand to plan your route and book your accommodation.
Cruise
In such an arid landscape it is surprising to know that cruising is still very much a way to visit Namibia. Various cruise companies include a stop in Walvis Bay on their voyages that take in the West Coast of Africa. In addition to this, houseboats based in Namibia’s Zambezi Region operate 3 to 4 day cruises in the Chobe area.
Rail
Rail travel around Namibia is limited due to the very nature of the landscape, however rail journeys operate between the coastal areas and Windhoek and onwards to South Africa. Rovos Rail has a Namibia Safari that travels between Pretoria and Walvis Bay and includes side trips to Etosha National Park and the dunes at Sossusvlei.
Multi-Country Combinations
If the holiday of lifetime would be to combine the mighty Victoria Falls, with some of the biggest sand dunes in the world, or in contrast, the watery experience of the iconic Okavango Delta before ending on an idyllic beach in the Seychelles, then no problem, the African Pride team excel at making such dreams come true.
Accommodation
The choice is yours! On safari, options range from beautiful lodges in the most remote and scenic settings to authentic, simple tented camps. Namibia is also about the experience and many lodges are designed with their environment in mind, from ‘shipwrecked’ lodges to star beds on top of camper vans, the list is endless. Discuss with us your preferred accommodation styles and we can suggest properties to suit.
When to travel to Namibia
Namibia is a year-round destination, however the winter months of May to October are generally the most comfortable - you can expect warm temperatures during the day and little chance of rainfall. These months are the best months for game viewing - as it's dry, the animals tend to head to water. For this reason, it's peak season and you'll need to book early.
