Why safari in Etosha National Park?

Etosha is Namibia’s premier wildlife destination and a ‘must see’ destination. Covering nearly a quarter of the park is a vast salt pan, so large it is visible from space. As water gathers in the shallow pans, animals are attracted to the area. The park is home to many species, including elephants, lions, leopards, rhino and cheetah, as well as plains game such as zebra, giraffe and various species of antelope – seeing Africa’s iconic wildlife against a backdrop of the shimmering pan is quite spectacular. The park is easily accessible so driving yourself can be a fun way to explore and adds to the sense of adventure. Game drives with experienced guides are also available from the camps and lodges.

On the fringes of the park are a number of private game reserves with boutique lodges and tented camps where you can enjoy game drives both in the park and on the reserves – where night drives and guided walks are also possible. Beyond the reserves there is a further selection of lodges within easy reach of the park. We often suggest splitting your stay between reserves on the southern and eastern sides and taking a day to drive through the park. There are government-run rest camps offering more basic accommodation inside the park too.
