Volcanoes National Park
Why holiday in Volcanoes National Park?
Northwest of Kigali are the Virunga Mountains, a spectacular chain of volcanic lakes and peaks, their forested slopes often shrouded in mist. In this breathtakingly beautiful corner of Rwanda lies Volcanoes National Park, a haven for wildlife, including the jewel in Rwanda’s crown, the remarkable mountain gorillas. In fact, it’s one of only three places in the world where you can see these incredible creatures, who bear so much resemblance to humans, in their natural habitat.
Trek through the forest with capable guides and trackers and spend an unforgettable hour observing the gorillas. Chest-thumping Silverbacks keeping the younger males in check; mothers gently nursing their infants while the toddlers play among the trees - an utterly absorbing and often emotional experience that will create memories to last a lifetime.
In addition to the gorillas, we recommend allowing some time to explore the slopes on a guided nature walk, hike to the resting spot of renowned primatologist Dian Fossey, and simply relax in this unique and pristine environment.

When to travel to Volcanoes National Park
Gorilla permits are available year round and sightings are not weather dependent. The trekking can be strenuous however and the dry season months from June to September are undoubtedly easier for hiking through the rainforest.
December to February is the next best time, whilst the long rain months of March to May and short rain reason of October & November are more challenging with slippery trails but visitors are rewarded with lower prices and permits are easier to obtain.
