Overview

Virunga Lodge claims to have some of the finest views in Africa – and we cannot disagree! The lodge is situated high on a ridge with breathtaking views in all directions. Whether you’re looking out over the dramatic Virunga Volcanoes, Musanze valley or the twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo. It is a spectacular setting.

Rooms

The rooms are in 10 bandas set in the lush grounds and built by hand using traditional materials such as wood and stone. All have en-suite bathrooms with double vanity washbasins and a shower, a fireplace in the room and a private terrace with incredible views. The three deluxe bandas offer more space and are perfect choices for honeymooners and families. 

Facilities

The main lodge is the social hub, with plenty of space for guests to relax both indoors and outside on the terrace. Meals are served in the dining area (all drinks, except French Champagne are included) and complimentary massages are offered at the spa.

Activities in the local area include gorilla and golden monkey treks, hiking in the mountains and visits to Dian Fossey’s grave or the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. At the lodge, guests are encouraged to take part in various conservation initiatives from solar power to ‘one sheep per family’ and may also be treated to a display of the local Intore dance.
