Idyllic
Seychelles
Why holiday in Seychelles?
Seychelles is an escapist’s dream, and with 115 islands dotted through the turquoise blue waters of the Indian Ocean, we always find it hard to leave this little corner of paradise. If time allows it is best to combine a couple of islands.
Start with either the main island of Mahé with its many resorts or head to scenic Praslin for a more relaxed stay. La Digue is only accessible by boat, and with no vehicles on the island only ox carts, it’s a chance to step back in time! For the ultimate island escape include a private island like Denis, where the biggest decision will be what cocktail to have during sunset.

Explore Seychelles
Mahé, the largest island, has over sixty beaches and coves to explore so there’s plenty of choice. Beau Vallon’s white sands are idyllic, and we think the coastline between Anse Royal and Anse Louis is particularly beautiful. Hike along trails through forested mountains, your efforts will be rewarded with panoramic views. Victoria, one of the smallest capital cities in the world, even boasts its own mini Big Ben clock tower.
Praslin is much less developed, with a sleepy, laid-back atmosphere. Dense tropical jungle gives way to pristine beaches such as Anse Lazio with its giant granite boulders or the hidden gem of Anse Georgette. In the Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve you’ll find the famous Coco de Mer palms – the large seed is a symbol of the islands.
La Digue may be the smallest of the three main islands, but it has picture-perfect, pristine beaches. Take Anse Source d’Argent – with its pinky-white sand, turquoise waters and granite boulders, it’s often considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Here you can enjoy rustic island life at a deliciously slow pace, exploring on bike or by foot.
Many other islands have their own unique charm and appeal. On Curieuse you’ll find giant Aldabra tortoises; Silhouette is a national park with towering granite peaks. Cousin Island’s nature reserve is a haven for birds and nesting turtles while private islands such as Denis, North and Fregate offer the ultimate castaway escapes.
Experience Seychelles
Island hopping. With so many islands to choose from, why limit yourself to just one? Our consultants will advise on ferries and flights that link the islands or take an island-hopping voyage of discovery on a mega yacht.
Beach life. The Seychelles beaches have undeniable photographic appeal. The soft white sand, the turquoise water, the granite boulders and palms that give many their distinctive look. And there’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a beach with activities, a peaceful spot or a hidden retreat.
Private islands. The ultimate in escapism – kick off your shoes and relax on a private island. The Seychelles has a number to choose from, Denis Island is one of our personal favourites.
Natural wonders. The granite islands and coral atolls are a nature lovers paradise. The Vallee de Mai reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to an ancient palm forest. On Mahé, hike to the highest peak, Morne Seychellois, or the dramatic Glacis cliffs. For underwater explorations, you’ll find rich coral reefs and abundant marine life in the protected waters of the many marine parks.
Active pursuits. Many hotels and resorts offer a range of watersports, including kayaking and paddleboarding. The beaches of Beau Vallon on Mahé and Grand Anse on Praslin are both popular spots for surfers. The calm shallow waters are exceptional for snorkelling among colourful coral, turtles and rays while experienced divers will discover some world class dive sites. On Praslin, you’ll find the Seychelles only golf course.
Creole cuisine. The country’s rich heritage is reflected in its cuisine. Creole dishes are an exotic fusion of French, Indian and Oriental flavours. All rounded off with a tot of the locally brewed Takamaka sugar-cane rum.
Travel Seychelles Your Way
The idyllic islands of the Seychelles are on many a wish list as the ultimate for a tropical beach holiday, and to combine this with a safari on mainland Africa is the best of both worlds. We’re here at African Pride to help plan and advise how to do this in a way that meets wishes as effortlessly as possible.
Day Tours
Many hotels have access to the usual array of watersports that come with such a destination as the Seychelles. But delve a bit deeper and you will find a surprising range of day tours available for visitors to the islands. Culinary tours, nature tours to see the giant tortoises or to Vallee de Mai, bike and beach trips or an island-hopping day trip by boat are always popular choices.
Flying
The Seychelles are well serviced by many of the world’s leading carriers and there are regional flights to Johannesburg, Nairobi and Madagascar. There are also frequent domestic flights between the two main islands, Mahé and Praslin. To reach some of the outlying islands small planes operate schedules to and from Mahé, or take a helicopter transfer: either way is a great way to island hop.
Cruise
The Seychelles are a regular port of call on many an Indian Ocean cruise around the African continent. Voyages are planned well in advance and working with the cruise companies we can incorporate a cruise into a pre or post Africa itinerary to help plan the trip of a lifetime. Alternatively, we can arrange 3, 4 and 7 night cruises around the Seychelles, visiting a variety of islands.
Seychelles Accommodation
The choice is yours! There is sure to be a hotel that will suit your preferences on the islands of the Seychelles. From uber-luxurious island resorts to simple beach guest houses, and everything in between, the range is endless. Discuss with us your preferred accommodation styles and we can suggest properties to suit from the wide selection of hotels we know, first hand.
Multi-Country Combinations
If the holiday of lifetime would be to combine the mighty Victoria Falls with views of Kilimanjaro across the plains of Amboseli, gorilla trekking in Rwanda, or seeing the Great Migration crossing the Serengeti before ending on an idyllic beach in the Seychelles, then no problem, the African Pride team relish and excel at making such dreams come true.
When to travel to Seychelles
In the Seychelles the seasons are determined by the trade winds. From November to March the winds from the northwest bring the warmest temperatures and the heaviest rain. December and January are the wettest months. Between May and October the southeast winds bring slightly cooler temperatures and much less rain. The transition months between the seasons (April, May, October and November) can be the most pleasant.
