Kruger National Park Highlights

  • Stretching over 360 kilometres from north to south, the park has a vast range of landscapes, climates and wildlife habitats and is one of the most diverse and ecologically rich conservation areas in the world.
  • In the south, the higher rainfall produces lush and diverse vegetation, with dense bushveld, acacia and marula trees. The landscape is rugged, characterised by granite hills and attracts a high density of wildlife.
  • Travelling north, the landscape becomes flatter, drier and more arid, the dense vegetation giving way to extensive open plains, large baobab trees and forests of fever trees.
  • For an exclusive experience with much fewer vehicles around, head to Pafuri in the far north. While the wildlife is less dense, the north is known for more unique species, such as the tsessebe, roan antelope and nyala. Elephants are also common in the north and the region is a birder’s paradise. The area is scenically beautiful and a great way to explore it is on foot, with a highly-trained walking guide.

  • Kruger has a healthy population of the large mammals often found at the top of the safari wish list - lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalos and leopard. Herbivores such as giraffe, zebra and blue wildebeest are also present alongside various antelopes, from the delicate impalas to the kudu with their impressive, curly horns. Vervet monkeys, baboons, hyena and warthog are often entertaining to watch and a wild dog sighting is always a thrill.
  • During the wetter months from October to April you’ll have the opportunity to see baby animals and migrating birds.
  • During the drier months from May to September the bush is less dense and wildlife congregates around the rivers and waterholes, making for some great photo opportunities. There is a low malaria risk as this time of year.
  • A good network of roads mean you can drive yourself inside the park, an adventurous way to explore, or we can arrange transfers to your chosen accommodation.
  • Choosing to stay within the National Park will give you the chance to see a vast range of wildlife, however you will be limited to travel by day only and you must remain on the road network within the park. Your experience will be shared with all visitors to the park, including those visiting for the day.

"The best trip we have ever had and we have had some wonderful holidays. Africa is a very special place - we will definitely be returning to South Africa."

"We felt thoroughly spoiled and privileged to have had such a wonderful family holiday - we really enjoyed the whole experience. The boys loved the hike up Table Mountain, and cable car back down. We definitely benefited from a good exchange rate, so eating out as a family wasn’t a painful experience! The only thing I would have done differently is pack a few warmer layers for safari – always forget how cold Africa can be in the bush!"

When to travel to the Kruger

The Kruger National Park is great to visit at any time of year, but the cooler and drier months from April to November are best for viewing wildlife - the grass is shorter, the vegetation less dense and the animals easier to spot.
