The Oyster Box, a prestigious 5-star hotel, has been regarded as one of South Africa’s best seaside hotels for generations. The hotel is situated on uMhlanga’s beachfront promenade, just a short drive from Durban's international airport, with breathtaking views over the Indian Ocean and the uMhlanga Lighthouse.

Rooms

The 86 individual rooms and suites are all classically styled and decorated with plush furnishings. Air-conditioning, tea and coffee facilities, complimentary Wi-Fi, and soap and pillow menus. Rooms either overlook the hotel’s peaceful gardens or have views of the ocean and the iconic lighthouse.

• Classic and luxury sea-facing rooms have a balcony with ocean views.
• Junior and sea-facing cabanas are on the lower ground floor with direct access to the grassed area in front or a terrace with sea views.
• Sea facing family rooms sleep two adults and two children and have a master bedroom and a second smaller bedroom for the children (four have bunk beds and one has a loft area with twin beds).

The seven suites and eight garden villas all have well-furnished lounges – deluxe sea-facing suites and garden villas also have a private plunge pool.

Facilities

The Oyster Box has a focus on food and fine dining, which is reflected in the array of culinary choices. Days start with an extensive breakfast buffet at the Ocean Terrace, the leafy Palm Court is the venue for indulgent afternoon teas and The Grill Room specialises in fine dining and prime cuts. The Oyster Box’s famous Curry Buffet is also served in the Ocean Terrace Restaurant. Three bars provide a choice of venue, with the Oyster Bar serving sushi and seafood alongside the selection of drinks. Leisure amenities include an outdoor pool, well-equipped gym and a spa. Beach equipment including bags and sun umbrellas are provided.
