Cape Town Coast
Cape Town - Coast
- Stretching from Mouille Point to Hout Bay, the Atlantic Seaboard, also known as Cape Town's Riviera, is a fantastic alternative to staying in the city centre, with beaches and the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the slopes of Lion's Head and the Twelve Apostles on the other.
- Sea Point and Green Point are ideal for those who like the combination of city and surf with a host of contemporary cafes, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
- For active types, the Sea Point Pavilion has an olympic-sized sea water pool. The oceanfront promenade runs from Mouille Point to Bantry Bay, a popular venue for those who like to walk, jog, run or cycle.
- Beach suburbs such as Bantry Bay and Clifton offer stunning sea views, sunsets, delightful coves and chic accommodation choices.
- Camps Bay is a popular resort with a long, sandy, palm-fringed beach and a fantastic promenade lined with trendy restaurants, cafes and cocktail bars. Lion’s Head and the 12 Apostles form a beautiful backdrop to the fashionable eateries and bars. The beach is very popular for sundowners and in hot weather it’s a sunseekers’ paradise.
- Bakoven Beach is particularly beautiful - big boulders, white sands and a gorgeous setting.
- Linking Hout Bay with the beaches of Noordhoek is Chapman's Peak, one of the most spectacular marine drives in the world.
- When considering a stay by the beach, please bear in mind that the water off Cape Town tends to be very cold due to the influence of the Antarctic currents.

How to travel from Cape Town
Cape Town is a great starting point for a range of holidays in South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean.
Self-drive Touring
Enjoy the independence of the open road on a self-drive holiday. Our favourite drives include Chapman’s Peak just outside Cape Town, ‘Route 62’ through the Karoo and the Garden Route from the Winelands to Port Elizabeth. We’ll plan your route, book your accommodation and provide driving directions, leaving you to enjoy the ride.
Small group tours
Travelling with a small group is an affordable and sociable way to travel. Ask us about our group tours depart - they range from 4-14 days, depart on set dates, and are accompanied by a driver/guide who can bring the destinations to life. It’s a great option for solo travellers.
Private guided trip
If you enjoy the freedom of the road, but don’t want to drive yourself - a private guided trip, with your own driver/guide will make sure you see the main sights – and some hidden gems along the way.
Rail
Travelling by train through the ever-changing African countryside on some of the world’s most luxurious trains is an experience of travel from a bygone era. Iconic names like The Blue Train or Rovos Rail operate various routes throughout South Africa and beyond. Speak to one of the African Pride team for details on the journeys available.
Cruise
The combination of an African safari and a luxury cruise is an irresistible one. We have partnered with some of the best cruise lines sailing around the South African coast. Join a cruise from the UK hopping off in Africa or sail around the South African coast. We will tailor-make your land arrangements to compliment your cruise experience.
Flying
South Africa has a great network of flights linking its key destinations. Light aircraft flights are a wonderful way to arrive at your safari destination, the bird’s eye view adding to the experience.
Accommodation
The choice is yours! Choose from a five-star hotel, self-catering apartment, a family-run guesthouse, or a fully staffed private villa. Our safari options range from beautiful lodges to authentic simple tented camps, or a bed under the stars. Discuss with us the accommodation styles preferred and we can suggest properties to suit from the wide selection of hotels we know, first hand.
Multi-country holidays
South Africa combines well with the Indian Ocean for a beach stay, the Okavango Delta, a visit to Victoria Falls, a safari in Zambia or a flying visit to Namibia’s famous dunes. St. Helena is a small yet fascinating British Overseas Territory, reached from South Africa. Speak to the African Pride team for suggestions for a multi-country holiday.
