Overview

Grootbos Private Nature Reserve overlooks Walker Bay and Gansbaai, in the heart of the Cape's marine and floral kingdoms. From exploring the reserve itself to whale watching (in season) there is much to do.

Rooms

The reserve has two eco-lodges and two luxurious private villas.

• Forest Lodge is ideally suited to couples. Set on a hill with incredible views across the reserve to the ocean, pathways meander through the Milkwood forest to the 16 free-standing suites, each with a lounge, bedroom, spacious bathroom, a second bathroom with shower and WC and a private outdoor deck.

• Garden Lodge is surrounded by mature gardens and offers panoramic views of the reserve and the ocean. Set among the gardens, the 11 one and two-bedroom suites are ideal for families.

• The two private villas offer the ultimate private escape for families or groups of friends. Both are fully staffed and have their own pools.

Facilities

The lodges operate independently of each other, each with a bar, restaurant, wine cellar, wellness centre and outdoor pool. The spa at Garden Lodge also has a sauna.

Family-friendly Garden Lodge has a forest-themed playroom and offers a kids programme. 

The real beauty of Grootbos is exploring the reserve and enjoying the activities. Complimentary activities include a 4x4 botanical safari, guided nature walks and hikes, horse riding in the reserve, land-based whale watching (in season) and a guided exploration of the coastal limestone caves. Additional activities such as boat trips, fat biking, scenic flights, river cruises and wine tasting can be arranged at local charges.
