Overview

Bushmans Kloof private nature reserve is situated on the edge of the open plains and dramatic landscape of the Cederberg. It has a focus on wellness, the wonders of nature and conservation – the surrounding hills house a culturally significant collection of Bushman rock art. It's a wonderfully peaceful retreat set amid the most beautiful scenery.

Rooms

In keeping with the style of the property, the sixteen rooms and suites are in whitewashed, thatched roof cottages in the gardens or the Manor House. Furnished in a classical style, all have en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi and private terraces with spectacular mountain and river views. The Riverside Supreme Suite has a heated outdoor pool.

Two villas are ideal for families, both have their own private pools and come with a dedicated personal guide and lodge host. Cederberg House is close to the main lodge and facilities while Koro Lodge enjoys a more private location on the reserve.

Facilities

There’s a 7,500-hectare reserve to explore, with hiking and biking trails, guided nature drives, rivers to fish in and dams to canoe in. 

With over 130 sites of Bushman rock art, the area is a designated South African National Heritage Site. 

Back at the lodge, there are four swimming pools to choose from, a spa, a yoga and meditation centre and gym. 

Delicious meals can be enjoyed in a number of locations. At the main lodge, there's the elegant Homestead and Makana which is set in the gardens. Surrounded by a natural sandstone amphitheatre, the terrace at Embers (a seasonal venue) offers al fresco dining in a dramatic setting. For a really special occasion, we recommend an evening at Kadoro, a reimagined shepherd's house where meals are cooked over an open fire and served by candlelight - a beautifully intimate and private setting.
