Ruaha
Why safari in Ruaha National Park?
Ruaha offers a captivating glimpse into the Africa of old. Its remote location creates a sense of seclusion rarely found elsewhere, with vast, untouched wilderness that remains blissfully uncrowded. Positioned at the intersection of East and Southern African ecosystems, Ruaha is an exceptionally scenic park with a unique diversity of wildlife.

Ruaha's Highlights
- Ruaha’s wildlife is remarkable. The park is known for its large numbers of elephants, big lion prides and predators such as leopard, cheetah, hyena and wild dog. But the unique eco-system is also home to animals more commonly associated with Southern Africa, such as the Greater Kudu and rare sable and roan antelope.
- Ruaha’s iconic baobab trees punctuate the landscapes and are the perfect backdrops for game drives at sunrise and sunset.
- The Great Ruaha River traces the park’s southeastern border, creating some of its most photogenic landscapes. Fringed with doum palms and dotted with crocodiles basking on the sandbanks, the river is a vital attraction for wildlife, especially during the dry season from June to October.
- The variety of habitats supports a wide range of birds, including migratory birds during the wet season months, a paradise for bird watchers.
- A thrilling way to experience the wildlife, the scenery and Ruaha’s incredible sensation of isolation is to head out on foot. Ask our team about our walking safaris into some of the park’s most remote areas, accompanied by highly experienced guides.

When to travel to Ruaha
The best time to visit Ruaha is in the dry season from June to October when wildlife is easier to see in the thinning vegetation and animals gather by the Great Ruaha River and waterholes. From November to May, during the wet season, wildlife viewing can be challenging and the heat and humidity are high. Many lodges are closed from March to May.
