Tanzania's Islands
Why holiday on Tanzania's Islands?
Lying just off the Tanzanian coastline is a sparkling collection of atolls and islands. The turquoise waters brim with colourful marine life, deserted sandbars beckon for beach picnics and in the local villages the ancient Arabic influences and traditions are very much alive.
Exotic Zanzibar, the largest of the islands, is brimming with Swahili culture, from the cobbled streets of Stone Town and the colourful spice markets to the boutique hotels, resorts and luxury hideaways that line the coast.
Pemba is like the Zanzibar of yesteryear – much less developed and full of rustic charm. The island may feel far from civilisation but we think it is beautifully close to nature. Fanjove Private Island is the ultimate barefoot paradise, with pristine sandy beaches lined with swaying palms, untouched coral reefs, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine life.
Why not follow a thrilling safari adventure with some downtime on the beach? These idyllic islands are easily accessible from Tanzania and Kenya.

Flying
Zanzibar Airport is well serviced by domestic flights from Dar, Arusha, Kilimanjaro or directly from the Serengeti. Increasingly many international carriers are now incorporating the island into their timetables. Access to the quieter islands of Pemba and Fanjove are all done by light aircraft transfer from Zanzibar Island or from Dar-es-Salaam, followed by a boat trip where required.
On the Water
It will be no surprise that an impressive range of water-based activities are to be found throughout all the islands, making the most of the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Snorkelling and diving are world class whilst ending the day watching the sun set from a dhow cruise will be an unforgettable moment.
Zanzibar Sightseeing
Zanzibar Island offers a fascinating variety of tours, with one of the most popular being a spice tour that reveals how the island earned its reputation as the Spice Island. A visit to captivating Stone Town will highlight the island’s rich history incorporating the Arabian and Swahili influences. Delve into the lush landscapes of the Jozani Forest for a chance to see the playful Red Colobus monkeys.
