Pemba & Fanjove
Why holiday on Pemba & Fanjove Islands?
The Zanzibar archipelago is home to a variety of islands and atolls, some of which offer delightfully laid-back retreats. These islands are far less developed than the main island of Zanzibar, with uncrowded beaches, crystal-clear waters, and pristine reefs perfect for underwater adventures.

Highlights of Pemba & Fanjove Islands
- Pemba is full of rustic charm. Quieter than Zanzibar, it offers a peaceful escape amid stunning natural landscapes.
- Around Pemba’s coastline, you’ll find hidden beaches, lagoons and unspoilt coral reefs, while inland the terrain is hilly, with tropical vegetation, primitive forests and clove plantations.
- Pemba is a world-renowned diving destination with some of the best dive sites in East Africa. The protected marine conservation area around Misali Island, just off Pemba’s coast, is an exceptional spot for snorkelling and diving. For close-up viewing of the colourful marine life, ask our team about the unique Underwater Room.
- Pemba’s beaches are incredibly beautiful, often secluded, and uncrowded, with powdery white sand and warm, clear waters. A sunset sail on a traditional wooden dhow is the perfect end to a Pemba day.
- Fanjove Private Island is the smallest island in the Songo Songo archipelago and a barefoot paradise. The island is dotted with coconut palms and bordered by a beautiful, sandy beach.
- An intact coral reef extends for 11 kilometres around the island, offering exceptional snorkelling and diving possibilities in warm, clear waters.
- Spinner and Bottlenose dolphin are regularly spotted.
- For panoramic views, head to the top of the historic 19th century lighthouse.
