Tarangire
Why safari in Tarangire?
For a safari surrounded by beautiful scenery, giant baobabs and large numbers of elephants, we recommend spending a few days in Tarangire National Park.
Tarangire is home to one of the largest populations of elephants in Tanzania. During the dry season from June to October, huge herds gather along the banks of the Tarangire River, a vital source of water in this semi-arid area. On game drives, alongside classic safari animals such as lions, leopards and zebra, you may encounter rarer species that are harder to spot elsewhere, including the greater kudu, the fringe-eared oryx and the long-necked gerenuk.
Ancient baobab trees add to the park’s natural beauty, giving the landscapes an almost pre-historic look. An early morning flight on a hot air balloon will reward with unique birds-eye views.
Camps and lodges are either in the park itself or in the wildlife management areas that surround it.

Guided Journeys
Tarangire is a key part of most small group tours around what is known as the Northern Circuit, which also includes the Serengeti, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater. Combining these contrasting areas is a great way to experience the best of Tanzania. For a more private experience, this route can also be done with a private guide, tailoring the route exactly to your requirements.
Flying
The option to fly into Tarangire is made possible by several companies that operate a daily ‘circuit’ of light aircraft transfers between the parks, making it easy to incorporate the different areas into one time-efficient itinerary and to see Tanzania from a different perspective whilst flying over the beautiful landscape. Speak to the team at African Pride for details of the services available.
Lodge Activities
Each lodge in Tarangire will offer daily game viewing drives, however aside of the main event, many will also have access to a variety of activities. Most popular are a morning hot air balloon ride culminating in a champagne breakfast in the bush, or some lodges offer walking safaris, or visits to local tribal villages.
