Why holiday in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest?

The mist-covered slopes of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest are home to some of the most incredible animals on the planet – the mountain gorillas. These gentle giants are remarkably similar to humans in their behaviours and their family antics can be fascinating to observe. It’s often a tough and challenging trek through the ancient rainforest to find them but the hour spent with the gorillas will leave memories to last a lifetime. Chest-thumping Silverbacks keeping the younger males in check; mothers gently nursing their infants while the toddlers play among the trees - an utterly absorbing and often emotional experience.

Beyond the gorillas, Uganda’s oldest forest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its unique biodiverse habitats home to forest elephants, antelope, butterflies and over 350 species of birds. Most visitors stay in lodges in villages such as Buhoma and Nkuringo, conveniently close to the park for gorilla treks, guided forest walks and cultural visits to local communities.

When to travel to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Gorilla trekking is possible year round, however the dry season months from June to August and December to February make for the easiest hiking on the forest trails. The wettest months from March to May and October to November make it harder to spot the primates in the thick vegetation, whilst the trails do become very slippery during the heaviest rainfall periods.
