Why holiday in Kibale National Park?

Kibale, in western Uganda, is primarily known for its primates. The lush, tropical rainforest is home to the highest concentration of primates in Africa, with 13 different species, including the captivating chimpanzees. Guided walks typically last about three hours, trekking through the forest in the hope of encountering these playful characters – they can move quickly so a degree of physical fitness is required.

Along the way you may also see a variety of monkeys and baboons. The park’s forests and wetlands are home to a huge variety of bird species and mammals such as forest elephant and buffalo – forest hikes and bird watching walks will reveal more of the park’s highlights and night walks may reward with sightings of nocturnal species such as bushbabies and owls.

Surrounding Kibale and the nearby town of Fort Portal are a number of picturesque crater lakes. It’s a scenically beautiful area with stunning views across the forests to the Rwenzori Mountains. Many lodges in the area are set around the crater lakes with fabulous lake views and are a short drive away from the park for the chimpanzee treks.
