Overview

Camelthorn Lodge is a heartwarming and sustainable initiative, built for and by the local community on whose land it sits. The lodge then provides a source of income for the community who go on to be proud guardians of their land, creating a safe haven for wildlife.

Rooms

There are eight stone-built villas and each has spacious bedroom/lounge area, bathroom and lower level veranda. All have an ‘upstairs’ balcony accessed by a spiral staircase, an ideal space for an afternoon siesta on the hammock. Some of the rooms have a plunge pool on the balcony.

Facilities

The main lodge is a large structure set under thatch overlooking a large Camelthorn tree which gives the lodge its name. This area contains dining room, lounge and bar. Wi-Fi is available at the lodge.

Activities include morning and afternoon game drives, with game walks and night drives on their own concession. There is a ‘look-up’ hide which provides an unusual perspective of the animals as they drink from the waterhole and a chance to canoe on the seasonal wetlands (water levels permitting). Visits are also available to the Ngamo community which provides a fascinating insight to village life and to the Rhino Sanctuary Headquarters where you will meet with the rhino protection team and spend time with the white rhino on foot.
