Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve
Why safari in Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve?
Set in Zimbabwe’s remote southeastern corner, just across the border from South Africa, the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve occupies 115,000 acres of pristine wilderness. The reserve’s diverse habitats attract a huge variety of birds and wildlife including rare and endangered species such as the roan and sable antelope, wild dogs and cheetah. The reserve is also home to the Big 5 of the safari world (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhino), and is particularly well known for its healthy black and white rhino populations.
Game drives will take you through forests of mopane trees and ‘upside-down’ baobab trees. Try your hand at fishing on Malilangwe Dam or relax on a scenic sundowner cruise. Cultural tours to ancient San rock art sites, dating back over 2,000 years, provide insights into the lifestyle of the region's original hunter-gatherers, while community visits offer an introduction to the rich traditions and culture of the local Shangaan people. With just one lodge in the reserve, the experiences are all the more exclusive.
The reserve is a non-profit trust taking great care to create a balance between conservation and the development of the local community, who benefit from employment, improved healthcare and education.
With flights from Johannesburg and the Kruger, Malilangwe can combine well with a holiday in South Africa – ask our team for their advice and recommendations.

When to travel to Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve
For the safari experience, the best time to visit is in winter, from May to October. It’s warm during the day but it is also dry, this means the vegetation is less dense and the animals are drawn to the water. During the green season from November to April the park is lusher.
