Amalinda Lodge

MATOBO HILLS

Overview

The family-run Amalinda Lodge is a four-star lodge hidden amongst the granite boulders of The Matopos National Park, a unique landscape made of ancient rock formations. Here the wildlife encounters are accompanied by a journey back in time, with San rock art dating back thousands of years preserved in the caves that form the backdrop to the lodge.

Rooms

There are nine rooms in total, each individually designed to fit amongst the granite boulders which become a unique feature of each room. The rooms do vary in size and features are dependant upon their location in the rocks. All are ensuite with spacious with open-plan showers and to the front most have balconies with views over the hills and kopjes of the park.

The Home-Stead is a private villa which affords guests the opportunity to share their lifestyle in a family home, with three bedrooms, several bathrooms, dining room and sunken lounge, and with the services of the chef, private guide and vehicle.

Facilities

The main lodge is a multi-level building, again set amongst the rocks. It gives the area a cave like feel, yet is well-furnished to create a homely comfortable feel. An amazing infinity rock pool is set in a huge granite depression and blends in naturally to the landscape. There is a spa with a range of treatments, library and wine cellar.

There is a wide range of activities on offer, combining wildlife with unique cultural experiences. Explore the park on game drives and join experienced guides to trek rhinos on foot or by vehicle. Take a bike ride to a local village or hike into the hills surrounding the lodge to see the renowned San bushman paintings that are 13,000 years old. The grave of Cecil John Rhodes known as "View of the World” is also nearby.

Our thoughts

" The unique and stunning location of this camp really sets it apart - we highly recommend a late afternoon hike in the hills for sundowners with the most amazing views. "

"The holiday was absolutely fantastic. Saw all the big 5 except rhinos. The accommodation was top class (lovely big beds), the people who staffed it were so friendly, guides were so knowledgeable, you really felt they wanted you to visit their country. We did a helicopter tour over Victoria falls, which were awe inspiring - another highlight of the holiday. All the transfers were smooth and efficient and this reduced any stress in the holiday, loved the small plane hops between camps in Botswana. We had an unforgettable holiday and will be boring our friends and family with it for months. Thanks for your help in organising this wonderful holiday. "

" We had a wonderful time! We loved the journey and whole experience on Rovos Rail from Pretoria to Vic Falls. We especially enjoyed Victoria Falls and the wildlife in the grounds of the hotel! We liked Mauritius alot. "

"We had a FABULOUS time. Even my husband, who was not keen on going, enjoyed the trip! We saw the Big 5 as well as many other animals. The vulture feeding at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge was well worth watching. It is part of a foundation to keep these birds from becoming endangered. It was a great trip and my family loved it. Thank you so very much for all your help in making the trip a reality for us!!!"
