Victoria Falls - Zimbabwe
Why holiday in Victoria Falls?
Straddling the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia the Victoria Falls is a breathtaking natural wonder. One of the largest waterfalls in the world, the sight and sound of the mighty Zambezi River as it plunges 108 metres into the gorge below is utterly incredible. Known locally as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ or ‘The Smoke That Thunders’, at peak flow it produces spray that rises up to 400 meters into the air and a curtain of water that is an awe-inspiring sight.
The Falls can be viewed in many ways, depending on your appetite for adventure! From the air, on a scenic helicopter or microlight flight; from the historic Victoria Falls bridge; or on foot from the well-marked trails that run parallel to the Falls. When the river is high, the roar of the water is intense and the spray so dense that it can be difficult to see through the mist and you are likely to get drenched! When the river is lower, the sheer scale of the waterfall is clear to see.
Known as the adventure capital of Africa, the town of Victoria Falls has many activities to choose from. For those seeking an adrenaline rush, there are thrilling zip wires across the gorge and white-water rafting on the Zambezi’s rapids. More relaxed activities range from an elegant dinner on board a steam train to a gentle river cruise at sunrise or sunset.
Two national parks and a number of private game reserves provide opportunities to view the wildlife, including endangered black rhino, and a day trip to Chobe National Park in neighbouring Botswana is easy to arrange. Many river activities - and even the views of the Falls - vary with the water levels, our team will be happy to help you get the most out of your stay.
If your visit coincides with a full moon, you may be fortunate enough to see a lunar rainbow, or moonbow, when the moonlight reflects off the spray of the Falls – a sight best viewed during the rainy season when the mist is high.
Aside from the Falls, the town has a quirky feel and it’s not unusual to see monkeys, baboons or even on occasion elephants wandering through. There are colourful markets and artisan shops, as well as a popular local brewery. Tours to local townships offer opportunities to engage with local communities and savour authentic Zimbabwean food.
Whether you choose a resort close to the town or a boutique lodge on the banks of the river is a matter of personal choice, our team will be happy to discuss the options.

DiscoverWhen to travel to Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls can be visited year round, though the water levels do vary with the seasons. From February to May the amount of water roaring into the Falls is phenomenal. From June onwards the water levels recede and you can get some spectacular pictures. When the Zambezi River is particularly low, the Falls can be reduced to little more than a trickle on the Zambian side, though the Zimbabwean side usually still manages a good display.
