Arguably the most iconic train in Africa, Rovos Rail has been offering first-class rail journeys across the continent since 1989. We love the elegance of the beautifully restored carriages, crystal glasses and crips white linens. Communal areas include the formal dining car, lounge car, smoking lounge an observation car with an open veranda. The suites are air-conditioned and have private en-suite facilities.

Pretoria to Durban via the Battlefields – 2 nights on board with stops for a game drive in Nambiti Private Game Reserve and a battlefields tour at Spionkop.

Cape Town to Dar-es-Salaam – 15 nights* (12 nights on board, 2 in a lodge and 1 at the Victoria Falls Hotel. Travel through South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania. Highlights include game drives Madikwe Reserve, a sunset cruise on the Zambezi, Chisimba Falls in Zambia, the Great Rift Valley and Nyerere (Selous).

Namibia Safari – 11 nights (8 on board and overnight stays in Windhoek, Sossusvlei, Etosha National Park). From Pretoria all the way over to the Atlantic Coast, this is a wonderful. Introduction to Namibia. Journey highlights include the Fish River canyon, Quiver Tree Forest, a flight over the Namib Desert to the dunes of Sossusvlei and safari in Etosha National Park.

For over half a century South Africa's Blue Train has been transporting guests in style between Cape Town and Pretoria. On board, the Club Car, Observation Car and non-smoking Car are pleasant paces to it and watch the world go by, while the dining car offers superb cuisine served with fine wines. The elegantly furnished guest suites convert at night into subtly lit bedrooms with en suite facilities.

Relax in first class comfort on board Kenya’s modern Madaraka Express Train. Sit back and enjoy the scenery on a journey from Nairobi to Mombasa, or disembark at Tsavo National Park for some time on safari, before picking up the train again after your safari to continue to Mombasa and a few days on the beach. These journeys can be built into your touring itinerary as alternative to traveling by road or by plane. Food and drinks can be purchased on board, or we can arrange a paced lunch from your hotel or lodge, just ask our team.
This is a transfer with a difference! Guests staying at Camelthorn and Bomani camps in Zimbabwe can hop aboard the Elephant Express en route to Hwange National Park. Lunch is served in this one-of-a-kind game viewing railcar as it sets off along the eastern border of the park, stopping to admire any wildlife encountered en route.
Why not swap a hotel for a stay in a stationary train? The Kruger Shalati ‘Train on the Bridge’ offers luxuriously converted rooms on a train parked on a bridge in Kruger National Park. In South Africa’s Eastern Cape, the Founders Railway Carriage is stationed at a siding atop a hill and accommodates five guests. With its outdoor deck, boma, pool and safari activities, it’s a great choice for families.
We also offer trains that provide exceptional wining and dining experiences. The best views of Victoria Falls are from the Victoria Falls Bridge, so take a trip on a steam train, watch the sun set over the Falls and enjoy a five course dinner on board.
