Unique Wildlife Encounters

If seeing Africa’s iconic Big 5 (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhinoceros) is high on your safari priority list, then let us know and we will help plan an itinerary that will give you the best possible chances of spotting them.

Experience animal encounters

Nothing can quite prepare you for the thrills you’ll feel seeing huge elephants up close or hearing the unmistakable sound of lions roaring, where even the air seems to vibrate with the sound.

If you’ve been on safari before, you might be keen to take your animal encounters to another level.

  • Spend an hour with the Mountain Gorillas, it will probably be the best hour of your life.
  • Watching meerkats as they emerge from their burrows, warm their bodies in the early morning sun and begin to forage for the day’s food will captivate and entertain you in equal measure.
  • If giraffes are your passion, head to Kenya. You’ll need to book very early to secure a room in legendary Giraffe Manor, but you’ll enjoy equally close encounters in the giraffe sanctuary just next door. Or include a few nights at Mugie in Laikipia where you may be lucky enough to meet Tala the orphaned giraffe, a frequent visitor to the lodge.
  • Many safari lodges operate conservation programmes to protect some of the world’s most endangered species and will offer you the opportunity, should you wish, to participate in their vital work during your stay. This is a great way to get involved, see what happens behind the scenes and have unforgettable encounters with endangered species such as rhino and pangolin.
  • To see lemurs in their natural habitat, it has to be Madagascar, a remarkable island in so many ways where you’ll see wildlife and landscapes that exist nowhere else on earth – as well as an incredible variety of lemurs.

Unique encounters are not confined to land either. In the clear waters around Benguerra Island in Mozambique, you may have the privilege of snorkelling with the rare dugong, a majestic sea mammal - this is the last remaining population in the world. In Madagascar, the Seychelles and St Helena you’ll find giant tortoises with impressive lifespans.

As with all wildlife, encounters can never be guaranteed. However, share your specific preferences with us, and our experienced team will work to maximise your chances.
