DAY 1
Start your holiday with an overnight flight to Maun via Johannesburg.
DAY 2
Arrive in Kasane and take a light aircraft flight to Xakanaxa in the Moremi Game Reserve to meet your guide. Your home for three nights is a Sahara style tent at Letaka’s private campsite in Xakanaxa. Each tent has an en suite bathroom with comfortable beds. Your safari guide, camp chef and assistants will look after you for the duration of your adventure, with all game drives and transfers between locations taking place in customised safari vehicles. A mobile safari allows you to really get under the skin of Botswana, and we love nothing more than eating delicious food cooked over the camp fire whilst swapping stories as the sun goes down.
DAYS 3-4
Spend two days exploring this fascinating region with morning and afternoon game drives. Lying on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, Moremi is one of the best game viewing areas in the whole of Africa. The varied habitat supports a huge range of wildlife including buffalo, lion and wild dog. Red Lechwe are one of the more unusual antelope that may be found here, plus a large variety of birdlife.
DAY 5
Today you transfer with your camp team by road through the Khwai region to the Mababe Private Reserve. An included mokoro excursion makes for a beautiful morning activity en route, floating through the channels in a traditional dug-out canoe. See the resident hippo at Dombo Pools before arriving at your next campsite on the banks of the Khwai River, where you will spend the next three nights. With just 20 vehicles allowed on the entire concession at any time, this is a wonderful wilderness region to explore.
DAYS 6-7
Spend two days in the exclusive Mababe concession, where national park rules do not apply. This means you can experience walking safaris and exciting night drives in search of nocturnal animals, in addition to the usual morning and afternoon game drives. The region is home to an excellent population of elephant, plus predators such as lion and leopard. The mix of shrublands and marshy channels also make for excellent birding, with many interesting species nesting here.
DAY 8
Continuing north, today you will transfer to your third campsite in the wilderness of the central Chobe region. With an almost desert like landscape interspersed with large rocky outcrops, this is prime territory for cheetah, lion and hyena. Your campsite for the last three nights is in an exclusive wilderness region, from where you will explore the central Chobe and Savuti regions over the next few days.
DAY 11
An early start as you head north to the Chobe River, where in the dry season elephants congregate in their tens of thousands. A picnic lunch and relaxing boat cruise offer a final chance for game viewing from an alternative perspective, before it is time to transfer to the airport at Kasane to fly home via Johannesburg. To really make the most of the adventure, ask your African Pride consultant about staying at a lodge in the Chobe riverfront area or extending your trip onto nearby Victoria Falls. Or both!
