DAY 1
Start your holiday with an overnight flight to Blantyre via Addis Ababa.
DAYS 2-3
Arrive in Blantyre, the gateway to southern Malawi, and transfer by road to the beautiful Majete Wildlife Reserve. Malawi’s only Big 5 park, this is a wonderful example of conservation in action and a blueprint for how wildlife and communities can thrive together. Your home for two nights is Mkulumadzi Lodge, comprising of just 8 chalets on the banks of the Shire River. Enjoy game drives, bush walks and visits to the local villages, or ask your African Pride consultant about pre-booking the star bed for an unforgettable experience.
DAYS 4-5
After breakfast you will head south to the Thyolo district, where you will spend two nights at Huntingdon House. The original home of Maclean Kay, founder of Satemwa Tea Estates, this exclusive property is still at the heart if a working tea and coffee plantation. As well as tea tasting and coffee tours, the beautiful grounds are also home to trails ideal for hiking and mountain biking, or transport yourself back in time with a game of croquet on the lawns. Mount Mulanje is just 90 minutes away – talk to the African Pride team if you would like to visit Malawi’s highest peak during your stay.
DAYS 6-7
Heading back north, your next stop is the colonial town of Zomba and the surrounding eponymous plateau. The cool Shire Highlands bring breath-taking views and a myriad of walking trails amongst the waterfalls, streams and lakes. Talk to your consultant about additional activities such as horse riding, fishing or cycling. Your base for two nights in the Kefi Hotel Café – a charming colonial house lovingly converted to a contemporary hotel and perfectly placed at the foot of the Zomba Plateau to explore the forested sloped and the nearby town.
DAYS 8-10
After breakfast head north towards Liwonde National Park, a haven for wildlife and birds attracted to the Shire River. The final part of your transfer is by boat, adding to the sense of splendid isolation. Spend three nights at Mvuu Lodge, nestled between the fever trees and overlooking the lagoon. Enjoy game drives, bush walks and boat safaris in this special wilderness.
DAYS 11-14
An early morning boat transfer back to Liwonde before you transfer by road to Lilongwe. The road transfer will take around 4 to 5 hours through scenic countryside, before you fly by light aircraft from Lilongwe to Likoma Island. Spend four nights at the gorgeous Kaya Mawa resort, a boutique hideaway on the white sandy beaches of Lake Malawi. Non-motorised watersports such as sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding are included, whilst there are also a range of optional additional activities available along with a charming spa. We think this is the perfect alternative to a traditional beach resort, and you will be hard pushed to remember you are in a land-locked country.
DAY 15
After breakfast you will check out and fly back to Lilongwe by light aircraft. On arrival you will check in for your international flights home via Addis Ababa.
