DAY 1
Start your holiday with an overnight flight to Windhoek via Frankfurt.
DAY 2
Arrive in Windhoek and transfer to your hotel for 1 night prior to your tour departure the following morning. This afternoon you are free to relax and perhaps venture out into Namibia’s capital city to explore the arts, crafts and coffee houses dotted amongst historic Germanic style buildings. As your tour group departs early the next morning a night in Windhoek is essential – it also makes it easy to combine the group tour with other exciting adventures in Africa.
DAY 3
After breakfast, your expert guide from Ultimate Safaris will meet you to brief you on your tour arrangements before departing Windhoek in your specialised safari vehicle. Equipped with air-conditioning and fridges for drinks and snacks, this is the ideal way to traverse this beautiful country without missing a thing. Enjoy a picnic lunch as you travel through the Khomas Highlands before arriving at Dead Valley Lodge in the Namib Desert where you will stay for two nights. Depending on time, you may visit Sesriem Canyon or Elim Dune, or you may choose to relax in the tranquil surroundings of the towering dunes. Enjoy dinner at the lodge. Journey time approx. 5-6 hours.
DAY 4
An early start today as your head off to capture the iconic dunes bathed in the early morning light. Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and the surrounding dune fields are home to some of the most striking landscapes on the continent. With dunes towering up to 300 metres high, your guide will explain how these are formed and the fascinating animal and plant life that survives in such a harsh environment. Return to your lodge for a late lunch, after which you may explore Sesriem Canyon if not already done so the previous day or relax at the hotel pool. Dinner and overnight at Dead Valley Lodge.
DAY 5
For those looking for an aerial view of the dunes, there is the option to add a sunrise balloon flight this morning – additional cost applies and must be pre-booked. Depart the lodge after breakfast for the drive through the desert landscapes to the colonial Germanic harbour town of Swakopmund where you spend two nights. The afternoon is free to explore this charming town before you dine at a local seafood restaurant, then return to your hotel. Journey time approx. 6-7 hours.
DAY 6
An early breakfast before you head south along the coast to Walvis Bay. Here you may choose an exciting kayak adventure on the outer lagoon, where opportunities exist to spot Cape fur seals, bottlenose dolphins, pelicans, flamingos and a variety of sea birds. For those not wishing to kayak, an excursion by motorboat is also available. Snacks and refreshments will be served before you have some time to explore the waterfront at Walvis Bay. You will then be transferred back to your hotel where dinner will be served. Afternoon leisure time in Swakopmund may be filled with optional extra activities such as scenic flights and sandboarding – please enquire for additional costs.
DAY 7
Depart after breakfast for the drive inland to the semi-desert region of Damaraland. Passing the Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain, the journey to Damaraland is full of giant rock formations and jaw dropping scenery. The UNESCO World Heritage Site at Twyfelfontein is home to over 2,500 pre-historic rock engravings depicting a wide variety of animals. Your guide will accompany you on a walk to see these ancient wonders either this afternoon or the following day, depending on time allowances. Two nights are spent at Camp Kipwe, close to the Aba Huab riverbed. Journey time approx. 5-6 hours.
DAY 8
Head off after breakfast on an exciting 4x4 excursion in search of the elusive elephant herds which have evolved to endure the arid conditions. Unique to Namibia, you may also be lucky enough to spot other large mammals such as black rhino and giraffe in this remarkable region. Your guide will visit Twyfelfontein if this wasn’t achieved the previous day and can also take you on a walk in the local area during the afternoon. Relaxing in camp is also a popular option before dinner is served alfresco and you reminisce on a wonderful day around the fireplace.
DAY 9
Journey north towards Etosha National Park – the wild highlight of Namibia. The Ongava Game Reserve on the southern border of the park is home to a wide variety of game including lion, cheetah and the endemic black-faced impala. Arrive in time for lunch at your camp which will be home for the next two thrilling nights, before heading out on an afternoon game drive with an Ongava Ranger in the private reserve. Dinner is served back in camp, which may be Ongava Tented Camp or another from the Ongava Collection. Journey time approx. 5 hours.
DAY 10
A morning game drive into the extraordinary Etosha National Park, where wildlife congregates at the numerous waterholes that often provide thrilling animal interactions. At the heart of the park, Etosha Pan is the largest of the shimmering salt flats, creating a striking contrast against the surrounding savannah. Your group may choose to spend a full day in the park with picnic lunch or return to camp for time by the pool before a second afternoon game drive. The park gates shut at sunset when you will return to camp for dinner and to overnight.
DAY 11
An early breakfast before you head south to the capital, with an exciting lunch stop and tour of the world famous AfriCat Day Centre at Okonjima. Focussing on the research and rehabilitation of Africa’s big cats, a tour of the foundation explains the vital work done with injured or captured leopard and cheetah along with an informative game drive. You continue onto Windhoek where your tour ends on arrival at your hotel, for a final night in Namibia. For those interested in tracking wild cats, an extension may be arranged at Okonjima Bush Camp for one or two nights – please speak to your African Pride consultant to discuss options and pricing. Journey time approx. 6 hours.
DAY 12
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and time at leisure to reflect on your adventures before your transfer to the airport. Fly overnight via Frankfurt to the UK.
