DAY 1
Start your holiday with an overnight flight to Kigali.
DAYS 2-3
Arrive in Kigali early morning and meet your private driver guide who will accompany you on your adventures in the ‘Land of A Thousand Hills’. Drive east to Akagera National Park for a two night stay where you will enjoy game drives, excellent birdwatching opportunities and a sunset boat trip on the lake. The varied habitat of savannah, lakes and wetlands with the rolling mountain backdrop makes for a wonderful scenic safari far from the crowds that can inhabit many East African parks.
DAYS 4-6
Enjoy breakfast at your lodge before transferring by road to the Volcanoes National Park region for a three night stay. Relax in the scenic surroundings then rise early the next morning for a real bucket list experience – an hour spent with the majestic Mountain Gorilla’s. After your briefing you will begin your trek on the slopes of the mountains, which could take anything from 1 to 6 hours depending on the location of the family. After a magical hour return to your lodge with memories to last a lifetime. Next morning you will return to the park headquarters for an easier trek to see the Golden Monkeys, some of the most endangered primates in Africa, before returning to your lodge for lunch and an afternoon at leisure.
DAY 7
After breakfast you will be driven to your hotel on the shores on Lake Kivu, close to Rubavu at the northern end of the lake. Arrive in time for lunch then spend a relaxing afternoon on the beach or getting out on the water in a kayak or on a boat trip. As the 6th largest lake in Africa, with the shimmering water stretching as far as the eye can see it is easy to forget Rwanda is landlocked.
DAYS 8-10
Drive south along the edge of Lake Kivu, stopping for lunch at a local restaurant, before arriving at your accommodation at the southern end of the lake for three nights. Spend two days exploring the pristine rainforest in Nyungwe National Park, including a trek to see the playful chimpanzees and a visit to the Ndambarare waterfalls and the exciting canopy walk through the treetops. Return each evening to your accommodation outside the park, or ask your African Pride consultant about upgrading to a stunning lodge in heart of the resplendent tea plantations.
DAY 11
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel then begin your road transfer back to Kigali. The journey takes around 6 hours through scenic countryside, or you could ask your African Pride consultant about upgrading to a helicopter flight whilst your luggage continues by road. For those interested, a stop can be made at Butare National Museum or the King’s Palace in Nyanza if you wish to break up the journey – entrance fees can be paid locally. On arrival in Kigali, transfer to your hotel for the night.
DAY 12
Enjoy a final day in Rwanda exploring the dynamic capital city. The Genocide Museum is crucial to understanding the recent history of the country, or explore the vibrant markets with local arts, crafts and excellent shopping opportunities. The day is free for you to explore at leisure, or you can ask your consultant to keep your car and driver at your disposal and plan a day of sightseeing around your interests before transferring back to the airport this evening for your overnight flight home.
