DAY 2
Arrive in Windhoek and collect your hire vehicle at the airport. Drive to your chosen property and relax or use your free time to enjoy Namibia’s capital. Take a walk in the Parliament Gardens or visit the National Botanic Garden. The Christ Church is well worth a visit, with its unique architectural style making it a prominent landmark.
DAYS 3-4
After breakfast, head south on the first leg of your exciting self-drive itinerary. Head through the Khomas Mountains to the Sossusvlei area, from where you are free to explore all this enchanting region has to offer with a two night stay. We recommend an early morning drive to witness the dunes in the best light, then exploring the skeletal trees at Deadvlei for some truly unique photo opportunities. Sesriem Canyon can also be visited for a fascinating scenic. You are free to explore as you wish from your base at Desert Hills Glamping Camp or similar.
DAYS 5-7
Drive north through the Moon Landscape to the coastal town of Swakopmund, which is your home for three nights. Ask your African Pride consultant about the range of exciting activities available at additional cost during your stay. Nearby Walvis Bay is home to large colonies of Cape fur seals, and many opportunities to get out on the water with options such as kayak trips or boat cruises where you may also be lucky enough to see dolphins. On land, you could choose to take a 4x4 trip to explore the Living Desert, or perhaps try sandboarding or quad biking in the dunes. Return each evening to your Swakopmund base at the Casa al Mare guesthouse or similar.
DAYS 8-9
Drive north along the scenic Atlantic coast to the holiday town of Henties Bay, before making your way inland to Twyfelfontein the heart of Damaraland. Spend two nights at your chosen camp to explore this fascinating region. We recommend visiting the natural formations known as the Organ Pipes as well as seeing the ancient rock engravings with Twyfelfontein is famous for. Another highlight is searching for the desert adapted elephants that call this arid region home. Excursions can usually be arranged with your camp to make the most of these opportunities with an expert guide – please speak to your African Pride consultant for details and prices.
DAYS 10-11
Head north towards the wildlife haven of Etosha – the jewel in the crown of Namibia’s game viewing experience. We recommend staying in two different areas so as best to fully explore this exciting region. First stop is the private game reserve of Etosha Heights, on the west of the national park. The vast flat savannah is home to large concentrations of plains game, as well as being one of the best places to spot both black and white rhino. We recommend booking organised game viewing activities on the reserve to maximise your experience – talk to your African Pride consultant about available options. Spend two nights in this magical and exclusive area.
DAYS 12-13
An exciting journey through Etosha National Park, where you can stop at one of the waterholes that make this stunning area perfect for self-driving. Head out to your camp on the eastern edge of the park for a two night stay, from where you may continue to travel the park independently or join a guided game excursion at additional cost. The drama changes daily in Etosha, so however you choose to explore this is sure to be a highlight that lives long in the memory.
DAY 14
Depart after breakfast for the drive south towards Windhoek. To avoid rushing for the airport, we recommend a leisurely drive with a final night back near the capital city.
