Overview

The Shamwari Private Game Reserve is one of the largest private wildlife reserves on the Eastern Cape and also one of the most successful conservation initiatives, with a focus on responsible tourism. Explore the malaria-free reserve on game drives, from the hills of the north to the plains and the Bushmans River in the south, with expert guides who are adept at spotting the wildlife. The reserve is also home to the Born Free Big Cat Sanctuaries in partnership with the Born Free Foundation.

Rooms

There are seven places to stay on the reserve, with choices ranging from five-star lodges and luxurious tented suites to family-friendly lodges and an experiential wilderness bush camp. Air-conditioning, a Nespresso coffee machine and a minibar come as standard in all rooms (except Explorer Camp tents).

• Long Lee Manor – 18 spacious rooms and suites, all elegantly decorated, many overlooking the plains in the south of the reserve.
• Eagles Crag – nine Junior Suites set among the rocks in the north, each with indoor and outdoor showers and a private plunge pool.
• Riverdene – a lodge developed specifically with families in mind, with nine rooms, some of which inter-connect to form two-bedroom suites. The rooms also have a microwave, handy for heating food or drinks for the children.
• Sindile – nine Premier Tented Suites, incredibly spacious and beautifully furnished, with indoor and outdoor showers and a private deck and plunge pool. All have views across the valley.
• Bayethe Lodge – 12 suites with sliding glass doors, indoor and outdoor showers and a plunge pool on the private deck.
• Sarili – a private, six bedroom villa with a pool and dedicated staff and guide.
• Explorer Camp – 3 canvas tents, ideal for those who prefer a more adventurous experience with the opportunity to explore on foot.

Facilities

All lodges (except Explorer Camp) have their own main area with bar, lounge and dining spaces. Game drives and guided walks are included at all lodges.

• Long Lee Manor, Riverdene and Sarili have outdoor pools.
• Massages are available at the Relaxation Retreats at Sindile, Eagles Crag, Bayethe and Long Lee Manor. 
• Traditional braais (BBQs) can be enjoyed in the bomas at Long Lee Manor, Riverdene and Sindile.
• Riverdene is exceptionally well designed for families with a supervised Kids Club and an amazing outdoor Adventure Centre.
• Explorer’s Camp operates during the summer months and offers the option to explore on foot and enjoy meals around the campfire.
• Sarili is an exclusive-use villa with a butler and childminding service, fitness and spa treatment rooms.
